I have encountered a problem that seems to have affected others as well. After running Bittorrent or Bittorrent++ for about 10 minutes, my internet connection shuts down and needs to be reset (cable modem). Something to do with losing the lease on my IP address I suspect. After unistalling BT, my other P2P programs DL at ridiculously lower speeds than before. I have come across more than a few people who have had the same problem with no known remedy. Re-installation and other methods have all failed. I suspect that there is a registry setting or something to blame. As far as I can tell there aren't any residual BT processes hogging ports or anything like that. If anyone else has encountered this problem please let me know. This sucks.

BIt Torrent worked ... I guess, it was downloading at like 1kb/s, so I got rid of it.

ive been using Bittorrent for some time now and don't get any problems at all !

if youve just deleted the files from your system ensure youve remove the registry posts too:

How do I uninstall BitTorrent?

MS Windows
Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There should exist an entry for BitTorrent. If it's not there, suspect an incorrect install. You can always reinstall the latest version and then uninstall it.

If you know what you are doing, you can manually remove BitTorrent by deleting the directory C:\Program Files\BitTorrent\ (substituting the actual location of your Program Files dir) and removing the following registry keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.torrent
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-bittorrent
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\bittorrent
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\BitTorrent

/me is happy I didn't encounter any probs too. It got me a nice new movie :), all three CD's came in at reasonable speeds!

My download speeds were as much the same speed as the upload speed I let it use, so there _might_ be you speed problem.

I use bittorrent at times and have not had any
problems... maybe it's because I am on adsl ?

I manually went through the registry and cleaned up some leftovers from Bittorrent. The problems with my other P2P progs seem to have dissappeared. The problem with Bittorrent a causing cable connections to die seems to be inherent to this particular build. I am under the impression that the developpers are aware of this bug and it will be addressed in future versions. That's about it. Thanks all.

depends on how many seeders and other users that are using the same torrent. usally fresh torrents give people their max speed. i do prefer mldonkey for that purpose, not that its any faster, but i have edonkey, overnet, bittorrent, gnutella and kazaa in the same client.

With torrent, you have to let it run for awhile (just start it and go to bed or something;) )and you will get fast speeds. Also, I too ran into the problem with my router, but i had the same problem before with other p2p programs, when I was d/l and u/l at the same time for a long period of time. I personally love BT and it is getting more and more popular all the time:)

No problems here, unless I experienced a lost connection to a tracker

Yep, it's been great for the new stuff that comes out. :) Nice speeds and people share.
