just wanna know, whats the optimal mtu (maximum trasfer unit) that you guys who know what it is and does that ican set for windows xp home..also i saw this in another forum but i cant find the post anymore, isn't there something in windows start up that we can disable that takes up 1/4 of our bandwidth before we start anything..holla back

1) Are you using Cable or DSL. Use 1492 in case of DSL and 1500 for cable.
2) You must be talking about the 20% for QOS reserved bandwidth. Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc -> Computer configuration -> Administrative templates -> Network -> Limit Reservable Bandwidth. Double Click on it, select enable and reduce % to 0. |

Then again this QoS-thing doesn't brake anything unless you are running QoS-enabled software under controlled conditions. For an ordinary homeuser the QoS brake does absolutely nothing.
Unless I am mistaken, something that happens all the time. I do remeber however several discussions on the topic some time after XP was released and back then it was very popular to disable QoS (yes, I did too) and almost everybody found no difference at all. |
