got as problem
i have downloaded a DVDR onto my "F" drive but when i extract it, it seems that it loads itself into a temp directory eg) C:\Documents and Settings\irc\Local Settings\Temp\Rar$DR01.687 i have 7.6GB on C:\ available before i start the extract the DVDR is 4.3GB ive tried setting TMP and TEMP to F: (COMMAND: SET TEMP=F: AND SET TMP=F:) alo setting the "HOMEDRIVE" to F: (COMMAND: SET HOMEDRIVE=F:) but it still expects to extract to C: first !!! all i need is to extract from F: to F: using F: as a temp directory :) thx in advance jake :) |
One way to change the TEMP /TMP directories is via
My Computer/Properties/Advanced/Environment Variable Settings button and the bottom. Not sure whether you have to reboot or not. |

gonna give it a try............. |
No, you don't have to reboot. It works fine. I also change the system'm Temp folder (\\Windows\Temp) at the same time.
But some programs (ie. Partition Magic 8) still store their task list in Windows\Temp folder. Otherwise, it's great moving the temp folder to an easier position, so that it can be emptied quickly after an installation :) |
