hi
i have a 56 K GVC dialup modem. it is nearly 4.5 yrs old. IT works fine. The issue is i have 2 internet connections from 2 ISP. when ever i connect to one ISP it connects at 31.2 KBPS and when i connect to net via the other one it connects at 42 to 44 KBPS line . both uses the same telephone line? any idea why it is happening like this and is there a way to connect at 56 K ..(my modem never connected at 56 ) thanks /KK |
The 56k speed is in theory only - It's just not possible over POTS (plain old telephone service) lines ;)
Any number of reasons may be for why you get the differing speeds for the 2 isp's, from line degradation/noise to the available modem pool you are dialing into... Hope this helps some :) /JD |
shouldnt i get the same speed in both connections coz i use same telephone line
thanks for ure help /KK |
Not neccessarily - the modem you could be dialing in to may be of a slower speed. Also the path that the data takes over the public phone system may be different to each isp. My dialup account connects at anythhing from 21k to 44k

thanks JD for your clarification

Last year,
I bought a new 56k modem and for the first time in 4 years, I hit the 50k/sec when I was connecting with this one  Same line, same pc and another cheap modem :D I was really impressed  Why with my other modem, I was unable to connect to 50k ???? I have passed 4 years connecting only to 46k max |

also consider this, AOL offers 56.6 connection, do they allow that? no...Depending on where your ar AOL caps their dial-up service as low as 28.8, it just depends. I am sure many other ISP's do the same thing, their disclaimer "we don't guarentee connection speeds"
