Hi!

i don't know if I posted this guestion here in past, but I have still problem to formating floppy on xp machine.I try 2 programs maxformat and winimage, but in both I have a error when formating 1.44mb to 720k.I try several command in dos to,but some of them work if I cover the hol on floppy.(this command work if I cover the hol:format a: /t:80 /n:9 )
I need this format for some CNC programming machine.
I know they are a lot of expert here and if someone can help or made a simple patch to run it?

You will have to format via a different OS

You Cannot Format 720 KB Floppy Disks in Windows XP
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition

This article was previously published under Q302113
SYMPTOMS
The option to format a floppy disk to the capacity of 720 kilobytes (KB) is missing in the Format 3 1/2 Floppy dialog box. Attempting to format a floppy disk to a capacity of 720 KB by using the format command-line utility produces the following error:

Invalid parameter /F:720
CAUSE
The ability to format floppy disks to a capacity of 720 KB is not present in Windows XP. Windows XP only supports the formatting of floppies to 1.44 megabytes (MB).
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
720 KB formatted floppies can still be read by Windows XP.

Windows XP supports formatting only the 1.44MB disk format, while it can read/write the others ;)

Hope this helps some :)

I remember seeing a post here that suggested booting to a DOS boot disk like Windows 98 and then doing it from there.
Format.com gets extracted to the temporary RAM drive so you should be able to switch disks.
