I am trying to setup a dual boot (or Choice of OS) on the one HDD
I used partition magic to create a separate primary partition so now i have
C: with XP NTFS primary active and
G: empty formatted FAT primary active
tried using ME install CD (boot from CD) and
ME install from within XP
and also booting from floppy but it does not recognize drive G:

I know it should be easy - but what am i doing wrong
help plz thanks

You need to do it the other way around with ME on the primary (C drive) and XP to another partition.

ME doesn't support NTFS so the way you have it wouldn't work. Also, installing 9.x or ME after XP will overwrite the boot files and you would loose the ability to boot XP.

ah still remember those days...:P

when u come back here miko, this is probably u would have done:

format C: (primary master) as fat32
format G: (primary slave) as NTFS
install windows me in C:
install Windows XP in G:

Rules: always install the oldest OS first. since the boot files are saved in a primary master drive, if the drive is NTFS, windows 9x/me cannot boot. so whenever u need to have windows 9x/me u need to have a fat32 primary master partition.

So, if you were installing XP Pro, and Longhorn on different partitions, on the same PC, which OS would you load first???

I'm considering doing this over the weekend, and I wonder if I am just asking for trouble!

@wase
You should install XP first.
Longhorn isn't final so you will be wanting to easily be able to format the secondary partition to install updated versions of it. Another reason is that alpha and beta versions will have some problems and if it's your primary OS and it screws up you might not be able to get back into XP.

Use VMWare 4.0 and you'll have no problems either way.
Straght forward and simple
