Theese days several versions of Windows are installed in parallell at the family main computer...
The computer is the "main" one as it's the central part of the LAN where stuff is saved and backed up. The "original" XP lives together with an wild and experimental XP and there also is a Windows 2003 ee eval version there. The "original" XP has been installed since autumn 2001 and now it's time to reinstall I think. Here is the problem: I want all the shares in original XP to be the same in the other OS's. I have been looking for an old tip written on paper I had somewhere but of course I have lost track of it. It was about saving a certain registry key and then import it into the new registry. I don't recall which one, neither the commands. Please enlighten me, and forgive me for beeing this lazy but my family shouts when they can't reach their backup-dirs, databases and so on. regards, |

But this is what I think you may be looking for ;) In the Registry, do the following: - Export the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanserver\Shares to a .REG file. This lists out the path mappings for all your shares. - Check the file for sanity. Delete the entries that you don't want to import. - Go to your target server and Merge the file with your current registry. - Stop and start the Server service. Hope this helps some :) /JD |
Ok, sorry for beeing clumsy when it comes to English.
I meant the latter thing - save and restore the shares. Thank you pointing the path out! Problem solved! |

Ok Jack, you seems to be on the go...
...is there a similar easy way to import users too - I don't want to run any of theese large migrating tools doing a lot of stuff supposed to make things easy... No panic on this one. I have only three kids and one husband, I can add them one by hand too... |
Hmmm, cannot find a similar reg shortcut....I will keep my eyes open though, good thing you only have to migrate a few ;)

you can back their profiles up so all the settings will be retained, but i think you'll have to recreate the accounts themselves manually, if you need to know how to do that let me know and i'll post :D

Kisses out to JD and Sephirot...
Lol, thanks, but I know how to add a user. I understand that the total impression from my 1000+ posts clearly shows I'm an idot in several aspects... but this one is pretty easy....:) Backing up their profiles are allready done; on my way now with theese several in-parallell setups. Thanks again! |
lol, didn't know if you knew how to back the profiles up and restore them, i figured you knew how to make a user account :D

I will keep an eye out for a quick and easy way to transfer user accounts .unicorn , though all I have seen thus far are 3rd party tools... :) /JD |
