I have a 8 GB drive (temporarily, 60 GB is in repair) running WinXP Pro SP1. Looking at the properties of the drive © in My Computer shows it contains 7GB of files, but looking at the properties of the folders on that drive, there is only 4GB of files. The drive is in NTFS; I ran the Error-Checking and it found no problems. I have all system and hidden files visible. Can't see any 3GB files. Did Disk Cleanup, looked in TEMP folders. Any ideas, if not, it's FORMAT time! (It pays to BACKUP!)
Everything has been perfect for 8 months, then all of a sudden...aaaaaaa Thanx in advance. Celeron 900MHz 512MB RAM 8GB HDD |
there's one folder by default you can't get properties of, and i don't advise changing the security on it
C:\System Volume Information\ that's where all your restore points, what's most likely eating most of those 3 gigs, and other vital info is kept, so turn off system restore or delete the restore points |
Damn! That was it, disk space setting was set to max. I just set it to minimum.
Thanx mucho Sephiroth Saved me from formatting and reloading! |

That is a very easy one to overlook and thanks for the reminder. We all I think could use some refreshing on thing that we already know but forgot.
