I planning on buying a sony RX 650. It has a P4 1.6, 512DDR pc 2100, an 80 g HD and on and on. Id like to hear from any one who is familiar with Sony PCs, before taking the plunge. Thanks guys

That's my best advice.

The only experience I have with Sony computers is my Viao Laptop and I love it. I did hear however that that support and repair services by Sony do really SUCK. That in europe (!).

In general I have to agree with pcservicetech, best build your own PC. Its sure will be cheaper then a Sony, and you can install specific hardware that meat your needs.

Hi agamemnon, well the P4 is not all that special. You should do some reading about AMD processors as well. The "Build your Own" is a good point too. If you are in Vancouver BC then check out Anitec Computers @ 2629 Kingsway...;) :D

I have to agree with the other guys. Then again, if you don't want to build your own, I suggest you buy either a computer with P4 using RDRAM or an AthlonXP.

The reason I am saying this is because I think I remember reading an article by THG that P4's get the best performance out of RDRAM and even DDR slows it down instead of helping.

It has also been proven that the AthlonXP using DDR is faster than the P4 (for now). At any rate, I would wait until after the first quarter of the year is over. Some price drops should be coming. :D

I have to say, build your own is the best advise, however my Sony Computer P I 233 with MMX still works and have never had any troubles with it. I bought a Dell computer and wish i never did and built my own computer.

i've worked on a sony pc, and it's not worth buying like any other pre-built pc. the best thing is to build your own if you know how. the sony pc i've worked on was probably back in the beginning of the pentium3. I've also upgraded other peoples hp and those are worst than sonys. even now when reading the prices and the parts that come with pre-built pcs, the price aren't even a bargain in most cases.

XPatriot 18th Feb 02 07:50 AM

I would agree...build your own. Literally with a screw driver and a box of parts or go to you local computer outlet...and get them to put one together.

Otherwise i can't help out with the Sony idea..

Check out Tomshardware.com and AnandTech for some ideas on the latest hardware...

[b:22223f7a99]Hey Crowdirt - What do you think of Atic computers on Broadway..??[/b:22223f7a99]

Crowdirt 18th Feb 02 08:54 AM

Hi XPatriot, Ahhh Yes the ATIC.....been around quite awhile, not very friendly place, reasonably good prices, too far for me to drive, Anitec is closer, nicer place to be....:D
