He's a political officer, it's his job to either put the best spin on things that he can or if it looks really grim to damn right lie about the situation to try and keep as many people behind the regime as possible.

I find it hard to believe that people would believe him, surley most of the Iraqis have seen all the US and British armour and infantry units taking hold of the city, walking freely fround some of the palaces?

It would be funny if he was giving a broadcast saying we will win etc, and a marine tapped him on his shoulder with his gun. LOL!

It's all about propaganda of success. If you delude people into thinking your winning, you have their support. If people realise they are in a hoplessly lost situation they dont see the point in fighting.

This kind of propaganda is a powerful tool which both sides are using. The US/UK have made many claims which later turned out to be overoptimistic.

The most hillarious sequence was shown on CNN this morning, and went something along these lines.

Camera shows american soldier...
"We now have TOTAL control over the area, the Iraqis were putting up a bit of resistance at first, but now they are beggining to see their truly lost position."

Camera shows Iraqi soldier
Reporter: "The Americans accross the block claim they now have full control over the area. How do you respond to thse claims?"

Iraqi Soldier. "They are completly untrue and unfounded. We have destroyed many of their weapons and we have won the battle. This area is now fully secured by iraqi troops who are in complete contro..." *** LOUD BOOM IS HEARD and iraqi soldier runs for cover ***.

Camera switches back to Americans
"As you can see the area is indeed in our control despite the claims of the Iraqis. If they do not believe we are here, they can just look out our windows and stare us in the eyes. We control thi *** BOOM *** jeezus, what was... ahh, its just our own people firing *** BOOM *** *** End of transmission
