Got a problem with a couple of machines PIII 600's of different manufacturers. I formatted both of them and put XP on as the OS. They both installed the LAN (3 Com) and 56 K model (Intel/Ambient) no problem. The software WinFax Pro 10.02 and AOL v7 all finds the modem all ok. BUT I just cannot connect up. The phone company tells me the signal is ok. I've never really had modem problems before so have undertaken a few rudimentary things like slowing down the connection speeds, uninstalled/reinstalled software, changed the slots the cards were in, all with no effect. The strange thing is is a location not too far away from these two a PIII 500 runs all this no problem
Any ideas/suggestions/comments very welcome ? |
Hi M31, sounds to me like the Driver for the Modem Hardware is not working properly. A Telco dial-up connection in Europe can be different from how it works in North America. Suggest checking with the Modem maker (Intel) to see if they have Driver updates for WinXP etc.:)

I'll try that.

Any other suggestions ?

I had trouble once with my xircom realport combo card. A firmware upgrade fixed the problem. I also asked the technical support of xircom and they gave me a string for the modem's extra settings. You probably already checked the country settings, right?
Good luck, axelhi |
