when ever i load a certain type of file i guess it tells me "Mpeg import filter - pack synchronization error"...can anyone tell me what this is, and how i can get around it.

Yeah. Basically it won't work. Virtual Dub is great but it hasn't got tons of features. Download .avi's and you shouldn't have too many problems.
