What is the best and most recomended software to backup dvds to vcd's or svcds?

Have to say quality wise I like DVD2SVCD http://www.dvd2svcd.org/ with CCE encoder. I Do 4 pass and it's excellent quality. I do header trick to the svcd to make it vcd so I can play it in my standalone DVD. I also like TMPGEnc. Just play with them all and you'll find one that does what you want.

hotrod, how long does it take for an average (in length) movie?

On my machine from the time I start the rip till the cd is burnt @ 6 - 6.5 hours. Others I have told about this average 8 - 10 hours
