Been running into a lot of problems lately when I open my server up.
Running XP with GuildFTP as my server behind a Linksys router (ports 2100 - 2121 forwarded) and Comcast as ISP.
My speeds are 1764kbs (220K) down & 225kbs (28 - 32K) up.
I run my server and it doesn't matter what I throttle it at 13K or 30K I loose the ability to do anything else online.
Can't surf, messangers drop off line, dns clients loose connection, can't check mail ect..ect..ect.. .
I Have tweaked my settings, tried a bandwidth controller and still at a loss.
Any suggestions what I can do about this? any type of program to throttle ports 2100 - 2121 only? any settings in XP I can adjust?
As of now I only run server after I go to bed, but would like to be able to leave running all the time.

Thanks
HotRod

Hello HotRod

For quite some time I had a similar problem. It was manifested as no or close to no ability to download if my upload bandwidth was used to it's full content. (I have 25 kB up and 125 kB down.) I had to brake my uploads down to the area around 14-17 kB to make the system work as expected. My setup is similar to yours (same OS, same server, another router). After having struggled with my setup in different ways I was convinced that the problem wasn't at my side so I called my ISP and explained/complained. They actually (well, after my third call) sent out a technician who made some measurements and after that they changed a switch in the system and... yes, now it works.

After all we pay (full price) for the (small) bandwidth and should expect nothing but a working connection.

Thanks .unicorn for the response. Pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is going on. Tried different servers, played with settings, everything I know to do. Even have throttled back to 12K now and surfing is almost impossible. May just have to call ISP and see what is up.
