The only way you will know for sure is to read MSFT min requirement list AND try to upgrade.

NO :) XP is a resource hog. My pII 433 with 8 MB video ram and 64 MG ram will hardly run XP. It takes 5 mintues for XP to boot up plus XP needs 32 MB Video ram for XP Plus.

As far as a bootup -

time wise, XP boots up as much as twice as fast as 2000.

Try XP, if it upgrades, or do a clean install, you will not be sorry.
My opinion only, if it counts based on over 200 corp. and individual upgrades and clean installs.

Do not settle on 128MB RAM, get 256MB, price difference right now is minimal.

Hi Folks, actually I have installed WinXP Pro on a P166 Laptop with 64 MB of RAM. The system did not have any complaints, and everything was resolved and worked. I was even able to make a Wireless Connection using an Orinoco card.

So lets see.....does it RUN, well sometimes.....does it WALK, most times.....does it CRAWL, not too often.:D :D

The reason I did this was to get a feel for how a Compaq iPaq 3850 might do wireless. These HandHeld devices come with 64 MB of RAM and a 206 MHz Processor. They RUN? Pocket PC 2002 which is Windows CE 3.0 as an Operating System. :cool:

Needless to say the Laptop also provided a Floppy/Hard/CD ROM Drives which the HandHeld did not.:(

Well no word of a lie....I installed XP Corp on a 200 CYRIX ( a complete piece of junk) with 64 MB Ram and a 2.0 G Hard drive, 4 Meg PCI Video and it ran...well walked fine lol.

Of course the only room left on the Hard drive was for swapping lol :D

Hi Folks, Win2K will install on a 486 machine and actually work ok. If you try to Install WinXP on a 486 it will refuse to do that. It installs ok on a Pentium Pro 180 MHz also and likely will install on any Pentium machine....NE1 tried a P90 or P100 install?:rolleyes:

XP is a total resource hog. When I was installing it on my Celeron 700 with 128 mb RAM, I had to get 384 mb due to the long boot-up time. :(

I wouldn't recommend running it on a P166, though. Stick with Win2K instead.
