A few Problems First:-

1. xp is running real slow, like my processors are working overtime (2 - 512 gbddrram = 1gb ram)
2. unable to delete files immeditely, after i touch delete, itll take a few minutes to delete or never delete at all...i just had to set my recycle bin to immediate delete and drag trash onto desktop then drag in to recycle bin to erase after 5 minutes......
3. there is another forum post similar to but not like this one describing the similar problems...personally i think the problems are the windows xp hot fixes from the updates page......all of my programs are the same and everytime i rei stall itll be aiight...but after the hotfixes i seem to see a difference..................

what should i do, what can i delete or look for how to go about solving this problem...holla baxck

When the system starts running slow press ctrl+alt+del to get the task manager up. That way you cann see what processess are taking up all the resources. Find the one that is being greedy and kill it, then try to find out what program it was and reinstall it

I had a problem like that and I finally found out that "Go Back" was interferring. If you have installed Go Back even a long time ago it could be your prob. Don't disable it just remove it completely and see what happens, linda

Yeah, Linda, that Go Back app was really the pits; screwed up my machine too!

I just LOVE your signature!!!

Let us know what AV software you are running, if you are using any of the backup programs that are mentioned above.
If push comes to shove then i would reinstall it and just install the programs you would usually do without updating the OS. Then after a few weeks if it starts running slow again you know its installed software thats causing the problem and not Windows Update. Out of curiosity what programs run at start up? If you need a quick way of looking the at the startup time programs goto www.mlin.net and download startup control panel from there. It will also tell you what programs are called by the registry at startup.

When you find out could you post the list here? It may help to see where the problem is

SIRCOOKS 11th Mar 03 01:51 PM

the av software i have are things like wintv 2000 by hauppauge, winmpg video convert, tmpegenc, cdrwin, a few iso busting programs, quicktime power dvd , norton system works and a few other programs like smart ftp messenger, office xp, ace mega codecs pack, and micorsoft plus, thats about it.........................what may i ask are you looking for so i can give you an account of if i have it or something like it................

DoG 11th Mar 03 02:17 PM

Sorry, i meant antivirus software. Some antivirus software are greedy as hell on system resources. The reason i ask about sartup programs is after a while you get a kind of "feel" for what should be running at startup and what shouldnt- some virus's attatch themselves to system startup programs and can slow a system down, also spyware/adware is known to cause system hangs and also to consume system resources
