If you are using Windows update in XP, maybe you should read this:

Enough said ???

First of all, this shouldn't be in (some other section) and second of all, how do you suppose it knows what you have installed so it can tell you what you need to update? You have to understand how update works. The hardware on your system is translated in certain encrypted codes of letters. Those letters are transmitted to MS so that they can tell you what updates you need and it sends you a list in IE. There is no way they know explicitly what hardware and software you have otherwise. To think that they were not getting info from you is absurd, but the chances that somebody is actually sitting down and sorting through the tens of thousands of update request codes they get daily are practically nil. Personally, I love update as long as nothing more than what Techchannel discovered is transmitted. I remember what it was like before updating everything by hand and I much prefer things this way.

Well I jusy spent 2 days (slight exageration) downloading an update, which specifically addresses the problems of using 3rd party browsers.

As a user of IE and Avant, there were conflicts, so that's why I went for it.

Guess what, for what good it did I would of been better off dancing naked around an open fire and rubbing two bones together.

If M$ are collecting info and hopefully for the benifit of the user then I am for it, the browser update was I think just a corporate white wash........ a lets look as if we are trying bollix update........they dont want people using other browsers that's for sure
