I just put together a p4 2 gig system. When I boot the cpu temp goes to about 192 degrees F and freezes. This is with the stock case fan and the fan that came with the processor running fine. Board is an ecs P4vxasd2+. Any suggestions on whats going on?

This sounds like a short circuit to me. Even with NO FAN the bastard *should* boot. If the Mobo and CPU are both new, you have to swap something out to find your prob. An old Mobo with the new CPU or visa-versa. There are only 2 other explainations I can think of.

1. You have a +/- voltage reversed (unlikely)

2. You have an extra post/standoff in your case that is 'touching' something on the mobo it shouldn't.

Good luck!

yea, that extra standoff was my problem awhile back. i was using the same mobo with a 1.7g celeron.
