The United Kingdom is the latest country to join a Microsoft program that lets international governments see the otherwise secret source code underlying Windows.
Microsoft unveiled the Government Security Program two weeks ago as a way to address concerns various governments have about the security of its Windows operating system. Microsoft said in a statement that the U.K. government will announce its participation Friday. The program, widely viewed as Microsoft's response to the complete openness of the open-source movement, already includes Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as members.
