I'm working on an older box with a PC Chips motherboard, SIS 630 chipset, and SIS 7001 USB hub. The USB hubs worked fine under Win ME, but when I formatted it and installed 2K, they won't work? I'm not sure why, there isn't a driver update so I can't go that route, Windows detects and installs the hubs fine, but when I attach any device to them they don't get powered up and installed by the OS. I updated the BIOS to the newest version, and that didn't fix it either... any ideas short of buying a PCI USB card?
I'm hoping I can get the onboard hubs to work, b/c the person I'm working for isn't in a position to be able to buy a usb card, even though they are pretty cheap.... I'd install 9x, but we all know how bad it is stability wise, and the box isn't fast enough to run XP. |
I had a PCChips mobo w/SiS chipset (a little older than yours) and it ran very well with 9x/ME but ran for CRAP on 2K. What I mean is, none of the on board stuff ever worked with 2K. It ran VERY well with WinXP Pro! It was a 475MHz AMD K6-2 system.
I suggest you try WinXP on it and see what happens. }---:? |
hmmm, k, if all else fails i'll try installing xp on it tomorrow after i get home from school, i had this pc chips board before i got an asus and an athlon, and i remember the audio being total crap under 2K now that i think about it too, so i'll see what xp does with it

Ha! I replaced that PCChip combo with an ASUS A7S-VM 1.1Gig Athlon combo over the holidays :D It has the SiS 630/730 chip set you're talking about and it LOVES WinXP!

SiS= SH*T. We had one here at school that never did work as there were not any drivers available that worked. So i thinks you may be fubar for the time being

We have a Sis MB working with XP - USB works great, but cannot hook an external hub, either 1.1 or 2.0. Updated XP to SP1, updated BIOS, does anyone have any suggestions. Only thing I have read is to install internal add-on board. Preferably, I wiould like to just plug in the external adaptor. Any ideas would be welcome.
