I can't find an erthanet wire long enough to connect one computer downstairs at one end of the house to one upstairs at the other end of the house
Is there somewhere I can buy a longer one? or is there an adapter I can use to connect one wire to another Thanks :) |
Have read somewhere about home networking through the power system in the house. Just plug in anywhere in the house and you're on. Will find the info. again and post it for ya.
Would a wireless router help? Indy |
Hi,
I found a 50 ft CAT5 patch cable at a recent computer show for $20. I have seen this length of cable for ~$35 at a couple of retail stores (Office Depot, Circuit City,...etc). I am using it to hookup an upstairs computer to a downstairs router. Tomboy |
I buy all my cable/phone and ethernet cable at home depot, you can also pick up the rj45 ends and make your own. 500ft shielded for less than 40.00
http://www.linksys.com/faqs/default.asp?fqid=20 then look at the link, and it will show you how to make a cable. |
i got my cat5 crossover cable at www.tigerdirect.com for some where around $25 (i think, its been about a year ago).

CompGeeks.com - 1,000 Feet of Cat-6 Cables and 100 RJ-45 30u Connectors for $62.10
Looks like the CompGeeks are carrying the new Cat-6 ethernet cables. This is the cheapest place I`ve seen a bulk roll of these cables for. They include 100 RJ-45 30u gold connectors. Cat-6 more than doubles the bandwidth of Cat-5e (100Mhz) to 250Mhz. Get the Cat-6 Package. CABLE Use coupon code: GOTAPEX to get 10% off. After discount, tax, and shipping it comes to your door at $76.91. Enjoy! |
