Hi. i recently formatted a friends pc.
installed xp on it. but after a few boots, Windows hangs on the logo screen just before its stupposed to turn into the welcome screen where you choose your user.
There's this blue indicator bar that goes from left to right, and it just keeps on going.
I tried to Reformat and reinstall XP 3 times now. everytime it happends after I install a diferent software. Im pretty sure it has nothing to do with what im installing, cause first it happend after a NSW2003 Liveupdate, and after a reformat it happend after I run windows update and then reboot.
I have SP1 installed, and all nessesery updates.
The thing is I can only run in safe mode, and event viewer shows didnt take any notes of it cause it it doesnt run untill welcome screen shows :( :( :(

its a P4 - 1.7Ghz with 256RDRAM.

I really need help with this! :(
thanks.

Hey, a little add on, it seems like a memory problem. i tried to play with my 2 - 128mb Ram (Samsung PC133U) - I removed one first, windows went up normally, then i tried the second one only, and windows went up, and now both of them are in their slots and windows went up, but im gonna try rebooting a few times now and im pretty sure it'll hang again... :(

Had a similar problem with memory. Saw the BSOD so often was beginning to think that was what XP looked like. Got countless error messages and was even having trouble installing programs. Replaced the memory and now the machine seems to be working fine (xx <-- keeping fingers crossed).

I seem to recall something like this happening to me.
I fixed it by playing with some settings in bios , but to tell the tuth , cant remember what.
I think I was trying to tweak some of the memory settings when I got the problem , so this may be a good place to start.

Well guys, it seems like i fixed the problem for now. B)
the CD-R was connected to IDE 1 As Primary slave.. The H.D was Primary Master..
I had a feeling they conflics some how. I disconnected the CDR FROM primary slave, and connected it to Secondary slave...
Now everything seems to work fine.
Hope Windows will continue loading normally.
Cheers :D

Hi

Try to reformat the hard drive. install XP and then start with installing the new mother board drivers and continue installing the different hardware units on at the time. reboot after you have finish installing drivers for each unit, i nothing happens then, begin installing the software u are using and restart each time you have finished the install. if the computer halt after a re boot you should know what coursed the problem. And i would not thrust the live update to much i also had problems with the automatic update, so be carefully, to not chose ever update you can get your hands on, they sometimes faq up your system. My experience with SP1 is good, so i dont think that is the problem. Good Luck and don`t give up
