What is the best privacy security firewall, maybe a combi program, that can do everything, and is easy to use and install.any help here.jtk

This is one of theese questions that usually gets a lot of different answers.
I can give you my personally opinion, but you might get better answers if you try to be a little more specific; I mean - "can do anything" is a little wild... But ok, Agnitum Outpost is my favourite. |
Any firewall is the best if you know how to configure it ;) :D

I like the McAfee Internet Security Firewall ;) But I agree with FreeUS, you have to configure it correctly ;)

I have adsl with router useing win2k for normal work have xp, win98,linux, ops as multiboot. In win2k i have norton antivirus corporate ed, popup ad filter, everything works hunky dory but wondering about security, if i go on to
www.grc.com to probe ports etc. it says all is stealth, only port 21 and 113 is seen as closed. is this ok or do i need more security.jtk |
It's hard to say if you exactly *need* more protection.
Basically I think everybody should run a decent firewall as it alerts you about apps wanting to connect something out there. Without a firewall you have no ideea about this. Since you don't mention anything about trojan-scanner I really would encourage you to get one. When it comes to port 21 and 135 there is no reason to show them for the world, closed or not. All major firewalls can give you this extra peace of mind. However, as mentioned above, you'll have to learn a bit, read some and maybe visit the support-site to get everything the way you want it. NAV corp edition may not be the most appropiate for a s ingle workstation. You might consider to switch to the ordinary version. (In fact you also may consider to drop Norton alltogether but this latter is mainly a question of personal taste.) Good luck! |
I have heard a lot about symantic antivirus in different versions not working,
and needing patch-updates etc, but i must say my corperate norton antivirus edition, just works and very well on a single workstation, as it configeres itself as a workstation installation. So i will certainly keep on useing this version well worth the money.jtk |
