I'm just getting "The service is unavailable". Its been that way for 3 hours now. Damn- i bet the messenger server is build 3718 :D

This problem is reported all over the net.

Fire up outlook express and let it log you into messenger. Worked for 2 people now :D

Well I have just discovered Avant Browser so IE is going in the bin........all I need now is another messenger , then win messenger can follow it too

3pm, Central time, and Messenger works in Chicagoland again....

I felt Windows Messenger failed to sign in on the very first days after a new Windows XP installation. Those are the only occurances I noticed Windows Messenger failed. :)
