i think redirectors are easier to remember than the actual ip addy. I used nis2002 with my server but it was a pain getting it set up. don't know about 2 firewalls or which os is better for a server, i would guess 2000 or xp just since they are supposed to be more stable. i use xp, blackice defender, and dns2go with my server.

I wouldn't run another software firewall with Norton. Although some people have success with this Norton products tend not to like working with other software. Better off getting a router with a hardware firewall built in, I think these are a little more to setup but will give you better protection.
I've asked on several forums and have yet to see anyone prove the benefit of multiple software firewalls running at the same time. To me if you have 2 programs running at the same time, trying to do the same job its just asking for trouble. As far as which version of windows for a server, I don't think any one will recommend 98/ME over XP but you will probably here a few votes for win2K.

Hi Folks, if you are running a machine that is "Only" Serving Files on the Internet, "FTP", then the only "Open" Port would be for File Transfers. Whichever Port you have "Chosen".

In that case there is no Purpose to a "Firewall" or "Virus/Trojan" Scanner at all. The machine will run faster and more efficiently without the overhead too.:D :D

In the ideal world, your ftp server pc should have nothing running but ftp server app. Pick up a old Pentium or PII machine and install Linux, then you should be fine. Afterward, you can install Samba on your Linux box which make your file transfer between other Windows machine a bit easier.
