Today i was gona replace the dinky stock heatsink/fan on my Radeon 8500. when i had nvidia cards, i could slide that sucker right off, but with the radeon it wouldnt move. So i got a puddy scraper and a blow dryer and turned it on high and put it on there for about 2 mins. I started trying to pry and push the heatsink off from underneath... wouldnt budge. I think they use Epoxy on their cores which sucks:mad: . Instead of just retreating, I have this Active ram cooling kit, which comes with a midsized fan, about 1-1/2-2" tall. So i took the lil dinky fan off the Radeon heatsink, and bolted that sucker on there with the long screws that came with it. Now, i still have heat spreaders on my Ram, just no fan on them, and its on my radeon. If anyone knows any way possible to get the heatsinks off, plz let me know, i would appreaciate much, (u guys should try it, i can get 285 core stable :p

if your very careful with cotton swabs you could try fingernail polish remover (acitone) it will remove most types of glue, but be advised it could damage other components

heres a quote from Rage3D's board-
put the card in a static bad, throw it in the freezer for 15 mins, take it out, take it out of the bag, put the card on the static bag on the floor, lay a credit card or something simmilar down right beside the heatsink so when you use a flat head screw driver you wont wreck anything on the board... and sometimes you dont even need the screw driver...just pry it off a little on each side (youll hear it come) till it pops off- Is your card the OEM or Retail version? If its the Retail verison I don't thnk its worth all the trouble for a 10Mhz gain (not even 5%) and if its the OEM version be warned I fried one trying to run it over 270Mhz, luckely for me the store did a exchange(warrenty) and let me upgrade to the retail card. **Heres the thread at rage3D there are a few more ideas there if this doesn't work http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...ght=8500+fa n |
retail, i think ur right, 10mhz gain isnt great. im too lazy to try the freezer thing. thx for the input guys:o

I just put some thing hard on the bottom of the screw driver and just started prying. It worked for me after a while.
I got the headshink off and put a blue orb on. |
