just got a new computer with Windows XP on it.
I used Partition Magic to make partitions, which it did quite easily. However, after it made the new partitions, XP didn't move the drive letter of my cd-rom to the last letter used(stayed as Drive D). How can I change the drive letter of this cd-rom to something else? |
Easy!
Right click My Computer. Click Computer Management. Go to Storage > Disk Management CDROMs are listed in the bottom of the windows. Right Click CD-ROM 0 button and click Change Drive letter and the paths. Click Change Choose the Drive Letter from the Drop Down Menu Click OK Click OK Hope that helps :) |
You beat me to it! :D

thanks,
MUCH appreciated!! |
i, too have a similar problem. i cant change the drive letter for my local disk (master drive). i recently reinstalled my os and the master and slave drives switched drive letters. my slave is now C: and my master is now F:. i've gone and tried to switch it back in disk management, but i get the message: 'windows cannot modify the drive letter of your system volume or boot volume'.
is there any other way to change my drive letter back to C: w/o repartitioning my hd? i want to keep my new os intact. i've already changed my slave drive letter to S: just for the heck of it. :) if i have to repartition, can someone tell me how? btw, i have a Dell 4400 Windows XP Pro w/ SP1 Integrated audio Gforce 2 64mb |
Disconnect the slave drive then reboot, that should change the boot disk back to C:, since I assume it will be the only HDD, then you can reconnect the slave.

malditoguero: There is a knowledge base article at Microsoft on this topic. It isn't that easy but basically it can be done. I think you should consider a reformat and start over once again...

Unicorn is definetly right...by the time you are through with it and get over being mad several times it just may be easier to start over. For some reason it happens on occasions, maybe because someone gets in a hurry or something.
Thanks Dudelive |
lol, ok thanks guys. i didnt want to resort to that, but it looks like that's my only resort.....er, something like that. Thank you once again.
