I don't know why people are knocking the Mac. It's like learning a new language or a new program. It will broaden your mind. Unless of course we have a lot of ignorant people around here, which I don't think its the case.
I use both the Mac and the PC. If you really get to know them both you will find that it will give you more challenges. Right now I'm trying to install Mac OS X on a PowerPC 8550. If anyone follows the mac you will know that OS X can only be installed on G3 and G4 machines. I use my PC more than my Mac only because you can find more software and it's widely used (thanks Microsoft) and also because its cheaper to purchase. Nevertheless, give Mac a shot and you'll see that its a great system. If more posts are put up you'll see that we all have questions, and since Mac sites or forums are hard to find you'll see a nice contribution from Mac users. |
Razor I still run a mac as well, have not tried to install OSX yet because it is a power pc 7500.
But it has a Newertech G3 400 processor . I havent followed the mac much lately but there was some talk about running OSX on such a machine with a software tweak. Seeing that newertech bit the dust I have to wonder if It ever came about ? Have any idea? Peeps rank on macs but for raw processing power they rule. I was amazed when i built my first pc athlon 650 and my mac smoked it at crunching rc 5. As for dualies they will regretfully tell you (peeps at 2cpu) a dual 800 G4 has the highest amount of keys crunched in their rc 5 program. Destroys any Windoze machines. |
I also have a newertech card it's a 300mhz card that I have running at 366mhz. I have installed osx and it works great. I first tried installing it on a PowerPC 8550 even though it a little slow you can see the joy of getting it to work on a 132mhz machine, and it hasn't bombed yet. Check this site out and it will tell you if it will work with your machine or not. Newer didn't finish making the drivers to install osx but this puppy works like a charm.
I tried the utility from Sonnet at $30 but it didn't work properly. But this one is free, completely free. http://www.macsales.com Go to the OS X Center on the drop down menu and you will find a utility that will allow you to install it. Good luck. |
thanks mate bought many of items from owc in my mac days. Gonna look for this utility. I have os X are you running 10.1 ?
