building a new computer and have two wires labeled m/b switch (green and black wires). what is that supposed to be?
also the case has two front panel usb ports. Each port has one red(+5v), one black(ground), one white(-D), and one green (+D). now the motherboard has 10 pins for usb1 and 10 pins for usb2. the instructions that came with the case say to to connect the red cable ot pin 1 and the black cable to the rest of the pins. (note: they are just one connector to each wire). below is how the motherboard says to hook up the front usb ports: Code:
pin signal name function hope all this made sense. just don't want to have to buy a new motherboard cause i short something out. thanks in advance. |
I had a similiar thought when I first got my new mobo. I had two usb ports on the front of the case and didnt know how to connect them. The 10 pin part on your mobo can actually (and is designed) to hold TWO usb ports. So 8 of the 10 pins are used. Take one port, connect the respective pins to pins 1, 3, 5, 7 and the other port to pins 2, 4, 6, 8.
You should be fine if you do that. |
ok thanks. that makes me feel alot better.
edit: anyone know about this one: has two wires labeled m/b switch (green and black wires). what is that supposed to be? |
Can you post some picture or something like that of the wires. If not can you specify where the wire is connected to?
|
ok i think those wires were going to the power switch. i plugged it in and the computer came on and so far everything works. thanks again everyone for your help.
