Hi,
I am using ADSL (512/256) and wondering why when I am downloading from ftp it is very slow...I mean around 3 kb/s - 6 kb/s. Ok sometimes I got like 12 kb/s, but the problem is I am using ADSL, is there any setting or tweak I must change?? currently using cute ftp pro 1.0 o yeah one more thing, why I always get 'timeout' or 'trashed response' while still downloading?? sometimes the download is not affected, but sometimes (and more often) is stopped...anyway to prevent this?? thx all any input will be greatly appreciated |
It's not always the ISP that causes slow downloads... It may be on the servers end, I mean maybe too many users at the moment or the person serving has a slow connection.
I would say try a speed test at dslreports.com and see what you get there. If you end up getting two from there then I would call the ISP. Other then that I don't know what to say, but I would think it may be the server end. Later, Lucky |
Hi Fe_yang, I often have this problem from some sites. If there are sites that you can go to that are quite fast on your ADSL connection then your end and ISP are working ok. The slow sites result from large loads on the Server that you are trying to access. Slow downloads and Timeouts require careful handling and Resume. I use FlashGet for sites like this. Often you can start many files and many segments with FlashGet and get some repectable speed from your ADSL. I have been able to speed things up by up to 80 times this way. Check out FlashGet at /http://www.amazesoft.com and you can get the whole package proggie + keygen from 51soft.
