Well, first thing I would do is spend some time (week or two) monitoring the Upload/Download Topics and the FTP Help topic. Have a look at what others are doing and how well they are serving etc. Think about what can be done with a 512K Cable Connection and what your Provider thinks of lots of Traffic. Ask lots of questions, there are many answers here.

I'm on cable, and I set up a Linux FTP server for people who PM me for download. Why? I don't get into troubles with my ISP due to the heavy trafics. Otherwise, I would definitely open up to all BetaNet users.

Great that you want to help. Like crowdirt says there are a lot of threads here in FTP Help. Read them and you will learn. I Don't run bulletproof so can't be much help with program, but will help anyway I can (Just PM me). Set up personal accounts, or fill requests at first. Will find out what your connection can handle. Just a suggestion.
