One of my friends, is really in a dillemma on which one to buy ASUS or SAMSUNG for a CD Burner. At the moment, in his country, only the above mentioned brands are available.

I couldn't give him a firm answer today. Those prices in the poll are near estimates which are converted from his currency to A$ (just to give you an idea that ASUS 52x burner is slightly expensive than the SAMSUNG 42x burner).

Both burners got the burn-proof technology.
ASUS 52x got a 2mb buffer memory while SAMSUNG got a 8mb buffer memory.

I am slight in favour for the SAMSUNG cos it has got 8mb buffer memory...but bit hesitant cos of its brand name is not much popular for me... :unsure:

Any ideas please?....

Samsung makes everything from cameras to DVD players. They have been around for years, so I would probably go with Samsung.

Asus makes great (or did make great) motherboards. I never knew till today they made (or have someone make for them) a CD burner.

What about Sony? Do you think it's better than Samsung? But I think Yamaha is the best, isn't it?

I'd say stick with Samsung because you get the most bang for the buck. Also, 2MB buffer is good (and the standard) but 8MB is much better.
