I'm still confused on how to configure my Linux box to see and be seen on a Microsoft LAN with pc's all using Win XP. Samba working and I've read all the FAQ's and how to's in the usual places, but I'm still missing something. Any simple solutions?

samba://IP address of computer/share name

I think that is what you have to do. Linux class and Network Operating Systems :) Comes in handy> :)
