In the channel type:

/msg BOTNAMEHERE xdcc send #PACK_NUMBER_HERE

Happy downloading...;)

Nichotin 9th Jan 03 06:34 PM

you are not actually downloading off a channel, you are instead telling a bot to send a file to you :/

Downloading from IRC

Downloading with mIRC

Heres how to do it:
(I'm assuming you have mIRC installed (www.mirc.com) and have basic knowlede of its usage (such as joining a channel)

Setup

Make sure you can actually download from IRC.

Go to File ğ Options ğ DCC

1) Make sure that 'on send request', 'ignore all' is NOT selected.
2) Click on 'folders' and make sure that DCC ignore is disabled.

Connect to a known download server/channel
(#software, #bandwidth, ect...)

READ THIS!

Many people don't do this very important step. When you connect to a channel usually you will get some sort of a message, like you must also be in another room, don't use 'triggers' (more latter) and don't PM ops/voiced

Triggers

A trigger is anything that you say to the room that will cause another thing to happen, like doing '!list'. Some servers allow that, but others will kick/ban you. That command will then trigger all the 'bots' that allow it and will pm you with their downloads.

So how do I see what I can download?

Simple, wait untill you see a bot listing, don't worry - when a bot does it you will know its a bot listing.

1) You see a program you want
2) This is the important part - actually getting the download. Usually you will see it in this type of layout:
downloadbot: #5 '...whatever...' Cool_program.rar
This is what you type in to get it: /msg downloadbot xdcc send #5
thats it - you'll get the Cool_Program.rar
Once again, the format is usually:
/msg BOTNAME xdcc send #?

Now What?

Well, 2 things can happen:

1. This popup windows comes up - press accept. Its downloading!!! Yipee! Just hope you don't get disconnected
2. Your put into line. You can't download it now because too many people want the same program, so you need to wait in line to get it, and yes - it is possible to wait for days. You will be told what position you are in line and how long you will have to wait peridocally.

What if I don't want to sit here all day? Simple turn on auto accept in the dcc options menu. WARNING! When this is done you will automatically download ANY files sent to you. Make sure to scan everything!

hi i have a router and am unable to set it up to let me download from any bots.. Ive tried setting it but to no avail it always says no such nick/channel i have a dlink 704p router
the most likely cause for this is that the server is offline or the bot is not online.
hence when you want to request for a particular file from that bot, the
channel will tell you that there is no such nick or channel...

but just in case, you may want to check more on your router config or setup.

its true as skloo says. Recieving a file should be no problem even tho you are behind a router. sending files on the other hand requires you to open a portrange and set your irc client to use that range.
