I am on the way to install VMware and just read the END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR VMWARE™ DESKTOP SOFTWARE PRODUCT. I got stuck after this. For your ease here is what happened:

.....(end of reading the license agreement)....

Do you accept? (yes/no) yes

Thank you.

Trying to find a suitable vmmon module for your running kernel.

None of VMware Workstation's pre-built vmmon modules is suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this script to try to build the vmmon module for
your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]

Argument "gcc (GCC) 3" isn't numeric in numeric ge (>=) at /usr/bin/vmware-confi
g.pl line 1476, <STDIN> line 3.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]

The path "/usr/src/linux/include" is not an existing directory.

I knew VMware is not properly confgured in my Linux :(
As craftyc taught me, I just tried vmware to see just in case if it works. But not yet...

[root@localhost root]# vmware

VMware Workstation Error:
VMware Workstation is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured for your running kernel. To (re-)configure it, your system administrator must find and run "vmware-config.pl". For more information, please read file "INSTALL" in the VMware Workstation documentation directory.

Press "Enter" to continue...

[root@localhost root]# vmware-config.pl

When installing Mandrake did you install the development stuff?.

If you didn't then all you need to do is go to Software Manager via Control Center, and install the kernel sources (I think it is a package like linux-xxxxxx-mdk.i586.rpm. Just do a search for kernel.) That should sort vmware out.

Hope this helps.

Yes.

Still no luck :(
May be Mandrake Linux 9.0 is too new to the VMware

What directories are there under /usr/src/ ?

This tells me that you have not installed the kernel sources (Or Mandrake have changed their location). Go to www.kernel.org and download the 2.4.19 kernel. Then untar it in the /usr/src directory. Then create a sym link from linux-2.4.19 to linux.

VMware should be able to find the location of the headers now.
