Hello,

I have two computer running XP. Now I want to install a network. I have a lan card in each PC and a cable pluging into both PC ;)

Now what do I need to do for making these two PC part of a network ???

Really need help please, I'm working on that since yesterday.

A good easy step to step please

Thanks to all of you

PS, I have no floppy on one PC

I am not 100% sure, but I would think they would both just need to be on the same workgroup. To do that, goto System Properties in Control Panel (Or windows-break for short), and then go to the "Computer Name" tab. Then just click on the Network ID button and follow the step by step instructions. Another thing that may cause your computers not to see each other is the actual cable. Make sure it is a cross over cable, thats the only real concern with the cable (that and its not frayed beyond all recognition). Hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks Shiromagius,

I will try that and my cable is a crossed cable ;)

No, that's not enough :o

In one of my PC, I see workgroup and a PC in this folder but in my other PC, I don't have a workgroup in the network !! I don't have a local network in my principal PC :o

Do I have to be a member of a Domain ? Or just a workgroup ?

Thanks I have it now :D

You just need to have a workgroup, the domain thing is assigned (like at a corporation, where your profile is on the network and you can log on from anywhere in the building and get your same settings). Hrm, are both computers a part of the same workgroup?

As a second thought, you could also go to Control Panel -> Network Connections and try and set up a LAN connection on them.

How are the computers going to be accessing the internet? Do they both have their own means (dialup) or do you have broadband access going into a router which in turn has both your computers plugged into it?
