These strange things began happening almost since a week before. The CD/DVD Drives get vanished sometimes. :o When you go to My Computer, there is no CD ROM drives. But still they got power (you can eject the CD Drives and put it back inside, using the button in the Drive). After seeing this, my of my friends said it happened to him as well, but mine is worse. It has happened only in Nero, he says. i.e. Nero hasn't detected his burner once, all of a sudden.
When my drives get dissappear neither Nero nor Windows can access any CDs inserted to them. When I go to Device Manager and scan for new devices, one of the burners appear. After sometime, when i scan again, the other burner appears. But this time, the second burner didn't appear yet :( I dont have a clue what's going on! Pissed off with this windows installation. Gonna format and install again. Can you guys please tell me what you think has happened? (Before I gonna do that) :) Thanks in advance..... |
I found this but there is no guarantee.
You could also try turning your PC off and cold boot it. Quote:

I didn't removing any burning app. I am using Nero Burning ROM 5.5.9.17c
For more info: I am having MAXTOR 20GB HDD as PRIMARY MASTER QUANTUM 6GB HDD as PRIMARY SLAVE CREATIVE 6x4x24x CDRW as SECONDARY MASTER LITEON 48x12x48x CDRW as SECONDARY SLAVE I tried System Properties > Device Manager and Scan for new hardware. Still no luck displaying my CDRW in My Computer yet :( |
this thing appened on my box too <_<
but in a little variation: I've buy an TI89 (Texas Instruments calculator) whit a pc cable for uploading apps and kernel to it, but when I tried to insert the software cd my CDRW disappeared from my box, only after a reboot,I windows could use it... now it's wrost: It doesn't read anymore almost all the cd that burned himself  think about it's an hardware problem... anyway any ideas? |
if could be of any help:
 |
In both of your cases, the only things I can think of is this:
Rearrange your drives, so that an HDD is the primary master, CD as a primary slave, hdd as a secondary master, cd as the secondary slave, and try new IDE cables too. I was thinking those reg keys too, because that had happened to me too, but, if neither of you have that problem then.... Other than that, as a last resort, update the mobo's bios if you can, and try another IDE controller if you have access to one, or updated IDE drivers. |
My CD Rom disappeared after installing Easy CD Creator. Was informed that Roxio software can do this. - no Roxio now - and the drive is listed again. Edit: Should have added that the drive was showing up in the post so it wasn't a hardware issue in this particular case. The drive only showed up again after reformatting.
