What is really happening? I really want to know how this works.

Its simple math actually. There is a trend if you look, look at the 9 multiplication table, (ie 9, 18, 27 etc) they are all the same symbol, and you will always pic one that ends up in the 9 times table. So don't worry kids, he is not reading your mind!

When you go again, the symbols all change, but the 9 times table numbers stay the same.
