hello,
I have two drives connect on a ultra 66 promise card Now I have one HD that is not detect by the card? How can I test it to see if the HD is scrap or not ? Thanks, I really need this HD, it is for storage and I have a lot of stuff in this HD |
Bads
Why not unhook off the promise card and hook it to an IDE , see if it recognized. Lost 2 so far myself, only way I know to check them. Even can try it in a different machine. Hope you get it figured out. HotRod |
Well,
very good idea, I will disconnect my other drive from promise card and connect my suspect hard drive to the IDE I will see Thanks |
When I worked for a computer repair/sales store we would test for free as it only takes a minute and we stood the chance of selling a new one. I'm willing to bet most stores would do this.

@ DigitalSteel
I can't format my Hard drive because the bios don't detect it ?? And I have buy this HD 3 years ago |
CHECK YOUR JUMPER SETTINGS!!!!!!
If you have changed it to a secondary master/slave etc it will not work properly...check the jumpers at the back |
Bads 1. I just had a hd do the same thing as yours except the computer wouldn't boot with it hooked up--not even with a dos boot diskette. Tried everything. Finally replaced it, and I guess the data is lost. Fortunately I had most of it backed up on cdr's.

Did you check that one harddisk was set to 'master' (the one at the end of the cable) and the other one to 'slave' (in the middle)?
Look for a description of how to do this on a picture on the harddisk or your harddisk's manual. Also check if the red side of the cable was connected to pin 1 of the harddisk. |
