Have been searching for info on DSL modems.
I have a Fujitsu Speedport that came with my Verizon accnt.
While I have had no problems at all with my service, I am curious if this modem is taking full advantage of my DSL hook-up.
I have seen it for sale for $29.00 on the Net.
Seems kinda cheap...

Appreciate any info.

check out the forums on dslreports.com maybe somebody there has tried it or has some info for you. Have you run a speed test to see if you are getting your advertisied speed here's 2 to try-
click on links-
speedtest.net
or dslreports speedtest

I would make sure your DSL provider will let you switch modems. To keep the security level consistant, I have to use the Cisco that came with the serviice, the provider only has access to the bios, for speed settings and bios security patches.
You could also check out the 2wire Home Portal* modem on http://www.2wire.com[there are other links there also], and
http://www.speedguide.net-has speed patches to optomize your connection [click patches on the left of the page]-and lots of info to go along with dslreports.

Alcatel SpeedTouch Home is definitely my choice after testing half a dozen, or so...
On PacBell DSL others gave me problems, this one once I optimized it for performance on a download speed side, is very reliable, and SBC technicians always recommend to stick with it over others.

Ive had dsl pro for a bit now and it kinda sucks. Going back to cable at the end of the month but ive been using s speedstream modem and I think as far as dsl goes its ok. I'll be using a linksys modem I bought for the cable. Actually Im going to have a wireless setup with one computer in the living room and the other in the computer room.

I have used the Speed Touch modem on my PacBell account for 4 1/2 years, the first modem failed after the first year (took too long to "sync" the line), only because it was the first model, I got a new for free under warranty. If this one fails, I get another one for free, because my employer, Thomson, now owns Alcatel!

I have had the 2Wire that came with SBC service for nearly a year now and it has been doing good. Don't know about other modems since this is the first time I've had DSL.
