My USB MS Intellimouse Explorer continuously goes on and off. Has anyone else had problems with USB devices on their system, or this mouse in particular with XP?
|
mine would go off and on/redetect every now and then so i went back to the ps2 port. :(

I've had similar problems with both IntelliMouse Explorer and the regular IntelliMouse Optical. In all three cases (not all my own mice) it was a soldering issue resulting in a loose connection between the cable and the point at which it was fixed to the print board inside the mouse.

I have a usb intellimouse and I have no problems...try looking for the latest drivers on the microsoft site or get the new sp1 for XP that's out.

I was wrong above, it's a problem with the small wires inside the mouse cable. After some us, typically over a year (which conveniently coincides with the expiry of the warranty) one or more of the have broken due to metal fatigue. I know because I just got another one and on closer examination it turned out that it was a broken wire inside the cable.

Thanks for the suggestions people....
Fixed it by installing a USB addon card. Works fine now...Lucky I repair and sell PC's for a living as I am able to aquire free parts If I had to pay for it I would have been pi**ed. |
