Why do you want to put a pci modem in an isa slot ?

Are you searching some problems ?

I have an ISA modem, and this is an hardware modem not a winmodem, It is the port com 2 in my pc :D

Because the computer i am putting it into doesn't have any pci slots and pci modems are about $20 cheaper.

I think,

If you want really make that,you need an adapter but it will be the price of a cheap pci modem

I have not seen any adapter's doing this, but it might be out there.

The easiest thing to do, will be to find an external modem.

Wouldn't it be easier to dig up a motherboard with some PCI slots. (probably a bit faster too)

Changing MB will be a bigger job than adding an external modem on the serial port :rolleyes:
But it might be a better choice in the long run.

i would definatley get a new motherboard, and no there is no way a pci modem would work in an isa slot, there is a chance of damaging the motherboard if you try, so don't do it

Disregard the stuff above. Got another problem with a 56k isa modem. Put it into the same slot as the 28k was in. Installed it and it sayed could not find a modem or something like that. Uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times, that didn't work. Changed isa slots and reinstalled it, got it to try to connect but it basically said i was missing tcp/ip. Installed that restarted and it couldn't find a dial tone. Switched the phone line back to the 28k and it got on (same phone line, connected to the same jack). So i swithed it back to the 56k and it said i needed to change the network stuff again(tcp/ip), but it was already installed. Can anyone help me by 10-12-01? thanks. btw, both modems are on com2. the comp is a 486 with 40mb ram, running win95. again, thanks.

it could be a number of things but I would try this first, make sure that your new modem is set to the same irq and com# if possible. some modems won't work correctly unless you disable the com port in the motherboard bios and then set the modem to that port-(disable com 2 in bios and then start windows and install the modem to com 2)you also may have a conflict with another irq or some hardware just doesn't like other hardware. chek irq usage by going to contol panel/system/device manager then doble click on computer at the top and see what irqs are being used by what and maybe be able to see a conflict.
I'm not sure of what else to check right now, but will post again if I think of something.
