Hi,
I searched for Google with the key "Slipstream Office 2000 SP2" but couldnt find a good result :( Does anybody know how to? Thanks in advance...:) |
Here is the information I have saved about how to slipstream Office XP to SP2. The instructions are probably the same for Office 2000 though.
run this in the command box (start/run) D:\setup /a this will copy the stuff from the office cd to the hard disk this creates a administration installation point on your HD (c:\office) Then do the same for the publisher disk extracting it to c:\pub Download the SP1 Administrative update (40megs) /http://download.microsoft.com/download/officexpstandard/sp/oxpsp1/w98nt42kmexp/en-us/oxpsp1a.exe open the exe and extract the to files to c:\config.msi create a "temp" dir in C drive then run these 2 commands in the run box again (separately 1 after the other) CD1 - Office msiexec /p C:\Config.Msi\MAINSP1_Admin.msp /a C:\Office\PROPLUS.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\temp\1.log msiexec /p C:\Config.Msi\OWC10SP1_Admin.msp /a C:\Office\OWC10.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\temp\2.log CD2 - Publisher msiexec /p C:\Config.Msi\MAINSP1_Admin.msp /a C:\pub\PUB.MSI it will seem like a quick operation but open the log files created to see if the msi patch updates were successful (right at the end) then reinstall office xp from the c:\office and c:\pub location like normal and now you have a office XP installation which is fully updated -------------------------Then run the SP2 update--------------------------------------- Download the SP2 Administrative update (about 50MB) /http://download.microsoft.com/download/officexpstandard/sp/oxpsp2/w98nt42kmexp/EN-us/oxpsp2a.exe open the exe and extract the to files to c:\config.msi then run these 2 commands in the run box again (separately 1 after the other) CD1 - Office msiexec /p C:\Config.Msi\MAINSP2ff.msp /a C:\Office\PROPLUS.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\temp\1.log msiexec /p C:\Config.Msi\Owc10SP2ff.msp /a C:\Office\OWC10.MSI SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\temp\2.log CD2 - Publisher msiexec /p C:\Config.Msi\MAINSP2ff.msp /a C:\pub\PUB.MSI then reinstall office xp from the c:\office and c:\pub location like normal and now you have a office XP installation which is fully updated |

oh oh just realised that SR-1 needed to install SP2 :o
How to Download and Install the Fully Downloadable SR-1 Update Point your Web browser to the following address: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/a...box.htm#o2sr1au Click the link to download O2ksr1adl.exe. In the File Download dialog box, click Save this program to disk, and then click OK. In the Save As dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in list, and then click Save. Double-click the O2ksr1adl.exe file located on the Desktop. Click Yes when you are prompted to extract the contents of the update to a new folder. Type C:\FullSr1 in the Please type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, and then click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box: C:\FullSr1\setup.exe Read the End-User License Agreement (EULA). If you agree to the terms of the EULA, click I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next. Two options are displayed: Update Windows and Update Office. Note the following: You can choose only one option. If you need to update both Windows and Office, you must install Internet Explorer 5.01 from the Internet Explorer Web site at the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.htm It does not matter whether you update Windows or Office first. If your version of Windows is already up-to-date, the Update Windows button is unavailable (dimmed). This is the case if you have Windows 2000 or Internet Explorer 5.01 (or a later version) already installed on your computer. If you click Update Windows, the installer for Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 runs. If you click Update Office, the SR-1 Update proceeds to determine which Office 2000 components you have installed on your computer and which files need to be updated. The remaining steps in this procedure describe how to update Office. Click Update Office. If you receive the following error message The following applications should be closed before you continue the install: you must close the listed programs before you click Retry. If you are prompted to insert your Office 2000 CD, insert your Office 2000 CD, and then click OK. NOTE: You cannot install the SR-1 Update if you do not have access to your original Office 2000 CD. (One exception is if you have installed Office 2000 from a "flat copy" of Office 2000 stored on a network server. A "flat copy" is not the same as an administrative installation.) After you click OK, the Windows Installer reinstalls Office 2000 and updates your Office 2000 files to SR-1 level. If you are prompted to insert your Office 2000 CD2, insert your Office 2000 CD2, and then click OK. During the installation of the SR-1 Update, one or both of the following messages may appear: You must restart your system for the updated configuration changes to take effect. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to manually restart later. The installer must restart your system before configuration of Microsoft Office 2000 can continue. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to manually restart later. If you are prompted to restart your computer, please restart your computer. The SR-1 Update may require a restart so that it can continue the update process. After the SR-1 Update is completely installed, you should receive one of the following two messages: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update has finished. To finalize settings, please reboot your system. -or- Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update completed successfully. |

One thing I have to ask you is I got a patch error while slipstreaming SR-1 :o Has anybody done this. Oh! I spent like 2 weeks to finish this thread to come to gold :) Please Help now at least. Anybody? |
Yes I did. It said "error applying patch to (somelongfilename).msi" I just clicked ignore and it worked. I finally worked out in the end that the reason it was doing it was because I had a slightly different eula file because the Office was the corp version so the eula was different. It doesn't matter though. Everything else should be upgraded :)

After you have done it, I thought I also should try my slipstreamed Office 2000. So I uninstalled Office XP SP2 and installed Office 2000 SP3. Surprisingly the setup said "Installing Office 2000 SR-1". :o
However the installation went successfully. But after I started Word it closed immediately. I knew this happened a while ago after I apply Office 2000 SR-1. Then I went to access and didn't open any DB. I quickly to a screenshot of the About (below). Wow, it says it is SP3! That is the only screenshot I could get, cos other all close. But Access closes too, as soon as you open a DB. http://www11.brinkster.com/mcored/Im...sp3_access.JPG The Excel, Frontpage, Outlook all closed immediately as soon as I opened them  I dunno what we have done wrong. There may be several reasons. May be cos I uninstalled Office XP and installed it. May be cos we slipstreamed it erroneously. However an interesting test, we did hey :) |
