guys...i have an SM56K speakerphone modem but i think its not compatible with my mobo or winxp!
problem: when i connect to my isp, it run flawlessly but when im hav been disconnected and reconnect again..my box will eventualy reset on his own... im not sure where to begin to config it. drivers i used was for win2k not digitally signed for xp.. i love to use internal rather external. any comments on this? |
Try getting reference drivers from the chipset manufacturer instead of from the company that produced the modem. For example if you have a PCTEL chipset check the PCTEL website for drivers.
If the firmware is upgradable make sure you have the latest version. Try installing NT4 Drivers instead. If none of these solve the problem and you are sure it's your modem that's causing the problem, treat yourself to a new modem...they are dirt cheap. :) |
fenix...hav any recommended internal modem(brand or whatever)? something that hav no problem in xp u know!
|
Well I have a cheap no name $10 ISA HSP modem with a PCTEL chipset that works just fine.
I also have an $80 US Robotics Performance Pro Modem that works with XP too. There should be plenty of modems that work with XP...but I would personally stay away from anything ISA regardless of how cheap it is. |
fenix...ill try to look for an alternative brand...ill keep u n touch!
thanks |
If you think you might ever want to fool around with 'NIX--best to get an internal hardware modem-- winmodems aren't supported in most open source. They are a couple bucks more, but the thru-put is often better.
