Hey All:

I'm looking at upgrading my motherboard and cpu. Right now here is what I am thinking about buying:

1. IWILL KK266 Motherboard
2. AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1Ghz 266 Processor
3. Vantec FCE 62540D Cooler

How's it sound? It will come out to be around $220 without shipping and handling. They kill you with the s/h stuff. :)

Thanks.

What r ur current specs? what u want may be overkill. only way to tell is to find out what you already have. from there we can figure out an appropriate upgrade for you

Never really heard of IWILL, but did a search on it, and based on what I saw, is your main reason for this board overclocking? If not, I would suggest going with a brand name like Asus, or Abit, IWILL I dont know much about, and I havent seen them for long (actually this was the first) So other then that it would be fine.

Yep. Looks like he has overclocking on the mind. I like the processor but havent heard much about the m/b. Also a via chip set that could be better I think. I think AngelDeath is right. Better to go with a better known brand name board. :D

brand name?
c'mon guys IWILL [b:3ea334167e]IS[/b:3ea334167e] a brandname ;)

you'll be fine IWILL makes nice products and offer great stability and overclockability

the best m/b BY FAR for athlons would be SiS735 if you ask me
it has the performance and relaibility of AMD761 while it's cheap and has some of the VIA features
the best AND the cheapest

I however may suggest that you get a 1.1 Ghz CPU instead, those are the ones in the sweetspot right now if you consider $/MGHZ
besides upping it to 1.1 Ghz would set you back more than a couple of dollars
(it's just a matter of days 'til 1.2 Ghz will be the sweetspot in pricing...)

the cooler is very nice, one of the best there is

Asustek Motherboards hit a sweet spot with me.

(Great for overclocking).

If overclocking is your game then go for the 1ghz TBird AXIA chip especially the 'y' series but be prepared to pay a little extra, they are very overclockable especially when coupled with the thermoengine heatsink and I havent seen one that hasnt hit 1.5ghz :D

As for Mobo's the IWILL is a very good board as it is stable at very high FSB speeds but for speed i would choose the Abit KT7A-R but there are a few compatabilitty issues especially with GF2 graphics cards, I too would stick with a via chipset. DDR DRAM is also an option.

At the moment I am running the 1ghz chip at 1.7ghz this is at a FSB speed of 155 this runs stable but i do not recommend it unless you are willing to invest in water cooling

regards

matt

I think every board has is problems.
I recommend to have a look here: http://www.athlonmb.com/vb/index.php
I check it on a regular base and found some good answers on different problems !
