A "rogue application" or "rogue software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_software)" is one that "uses malware to advertise or install itself or to force computer users to pay for removal of nonexistent spyware."

F-Secure claims (http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00001362.html) to have found the first such app for the Mac.
