Microsoft Kills Off Foul-Mouthed "Santa"

Yet another reason to not use Windows Live Messenger --- it can't keep its mouth clean. Seriously though, does anyone remember the old Eliza (http://www-ai.ijs.si/eliza/eliza.html) program, that simulated a therapist? Well, things have gotten a lot smarter, A.I.-wise, since then --- maybe too smart.

Last year Microsoft encouraged kids to chat directly with Santa by adding northpole@live.com to their Windows Live Messenger contact lists. The program, which Microsoft reactivated early this December, asked children what they wanted for Christmas and could respond automatically.

Unfortunately there were some bugs.
