mp3PRO rocked the world beating the then-champ WMA8 few months ago. but later Microsoft's latest audio codec WMA9 striked back!
================================================== ==
there is big misunderstanding with WMA and that's why ppl don't move to the new file format. and that's the Digital Rights Management. the new Windows Media Player 9 warns you for the first time when you try to encode files with the 'protect content' is turned on. you can switch it off after that, and then your WMA files are exactly like MP3 or mp3PRO. you can burn them to CDRs and share with your friends.

pls, reply if you are using any other audio format other than WMA9, WMA8, mp3PRO or MP3. your polls and replies are welcome :)

i considered OGG Vorbis and Real Audio formats as minor formats when compared with WMA and MP3 :) therefore i ask you guys to pls reply if u r using another file format which is not listed.

I can't really vote since I haven't tried WMP9 yet. What happened to OGG Vorbis?

oh man! u should try the new Windows Media Player 9. it really kicks ass of MP3 or mp3PRO. just yesterday, i compared the new Real Audio 8 with ATRAC3 codec with the this Windows Media Audio 9 codec with 64kbps for both of them. you could really see the difference. :)

Windows Media Player 9 hasnt got the mp3PRO playing capabilities yet. they will add that codec when mp3PRO becomes popular like MP3. i also have some cpla of albums encoded in mp3PRO (before WMP9 was released) and i would like to play them in WMP.
i had to install THOMSON mp3PRO Audio Player in order to play with minimum fuss. or else MusicMatch JukeBox 7.2 does the same job, but it takes much more room.

:blink: More license crap to have to deal with. I hate it! Screw WMA until they can get this figured out to make it easier. Having to reconnect to a license database to unlock my media because I reinstalled my OS is just SCREWED UP.

You guys watch. They day you can't access some stored music files because they are locked because of a licensing issue, you'll be sorry.

I agree that WMP may be superior technically but I dont use it for one simple reason - compatibility...

I have a much wider range of players, platfroms and hardware that can play MP3. Not to mention if I download files of kazaa all audio files are MP3. I am not short of disk space, and compatibillity is more important to me than compression.

If compression was very important to me, I still wouldnt use WMA but OGG. OGG is less-known but provides better compression than WMA. Not to mention the matter of morals, that I prefer open-source equivelants especially if they are better...

Yeah I hate that too :angry: I fucked up some hell good Audio tracks which now i can't replay them :( This shitty thing happened cos i didn't know at that time the WMPv7.1 turned on this fucking Copy Protection.
It was like one and half years ago. and between that time, I upgraded, reinstalled, formatted and did lotsa things. And i missed out all those possible ways restoring the license back.
Later i found out where i have gone wrong. forgot to turn off the copy protection he he, and i never forget do that again :)
The good thing is The latest versions of WMP (v9.00.2799 and above) gives you kinda 'warning' message box that you haven't turned off the Copy Protection (if you haven't done it yet, before copying music for the first time). So it is hell easy now. I like the way now :
