Ever since installing WMP 9, I haven't been able to play certain kinds of AVI files. I have all the appropriate codecs installed, and I can play all of these files with the ancient Media Player 6.4. I'm guessing it's just a problem due to it being a beta, but it is kinda annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

My guess is you are having problems with avi's created with the Divx codec- they are a pain in the ass to edit as well. I have a codec pack i got from microshaft that sometimes helps. I will see if i can find a download link for you- pretty sure i got it from the windows media site

And just to clarify, when i open an avi that won't play, i get the error message

Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline.

I'm just so confused by this. Media Player 6.4 can play these!!! but not 9.

Well thats codecs out of the question. Can't help you on that one. Will look around for you though
