My friend lent me his Hard Disk to Copy over some of my Valuable data for backup....
On Installation in my Rig WinXP Pro Sp1....It wasn't recognised at all.... Disk Management found it but said it was Dynamic & Foreign I couldn't format it or nothing.... I ran PM 7.0 and although it recognises the Disk as Dynamic it too won't let me format it.... NE1 Know what's going on and how I can format the beast so I can put some Data on it.... Grzyb |
Sounds like it may have an overlay, on it, not sure, have you tried maxtors web site for the diagnostic tool
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm the utility is powermax |
Spoken to him and definitly no OVERLAY Software has been used....

Have you tried plain old DOS/WIN98?
Fdisk /mbr, delete all partitions, make a new one and format it with DOS/Win98. After that WinXP (or PM) should be able to handle the drive. |
Sounds like the drive wasn't formatted when it was installed- from the mmc you can mount the drive as dynamic. I'm guessing that his OS held the volume info for that drive ie. like in a raid system
Is his system still operational? Have you tried the import foreign disk option in the mmc? Last edited by DoG at Oct 1 2002, 09:26 PM |
